The independent Vermont senator was the surprise opening act for singer-songwriter Clairo, who Sanders thanked for “allowing him” to speak to the captive audience ahead of her much-anticipated performance — a speech he used to rail against the 1%, President Trump, and the war in Gaza. “This country faces some very difficult challenges and the future of what happens to America is dependent on your generation,” Sanders said at the opening of his remarks to the crowd of partygoers at the event in Indio, Calif.
